More notes for the Princess collection - Rapunzel, Jasmine, and Pocahontas!

Here's round three!  These work up so fast...I'm totally hooked on them at the moment.  I can finish one in about 2 evenings and between chasing after my babysitting buddies during the day.  Their heads/hair take the longest for me, but I rip right through the dress/blankie part.  And coming soon I have Ariel and Lilo (in her hula outfit, from Lilo & Stitch) ready to show you.  Stay tuned!

And as always, you can purchase the base pattern for these Loveys here.

My notes for the Pretty Princess Lovey pattern - Round 2

I finally took a bit of time to work up some more Princesses for my collection.  Lately I've heard that Disney is going ballistic and shutting down Etsy and Amazon shops who are making and selling anything that resembles one of their licensed designs, specifically Frozen items.  I'll keep my feelings on this to myself so as not to start a fight...(grrrrr...they are a multi-billion dollar corporation and they are concerning themselves with the goings-on of a few people selling fan art?!  Whatevs.)  However, I do plan to continue making my own versions of the "D" princesses using the Pretty Princess Lovey pattern from Bowtykes.  And since you all asked so nicely, I'll post my notes on making each princess I work up so you can make your own versions, too.  Take that, D!

Base Pattern for all these dolls can be found  here .

Thank you so much, Brianna Olsen...I'm sure you don't know who I am but I will be forever grateful to you for this pattern!  Love it so much!!

My notes for the Pretty Princess Lovey pattern - Disney Collection

So, I recently saw a hooky friend post about this fantastic pattern The Pretty Princess Lovey.  She had made it into Princess Leia of Star Wars fame and it was crazy cute.  But since our fam isn't THAT into Star Wars (I know, we're such a disappointment to humanity), I decided to see if I could make a Disney Princess.  I was most concerned with making them recognizable as their illustrated counterparts...hopefully I did an OK job.

Listed below are the notes I took as I added to the original pattern to make each princess.  Purchase the original pattern here and get to work!

Merida - Disney's Brave
Puffy Sleeves:  Make Arm Pattern as written for Long Sleeves until R13.
          - R14:  switch to gold yarn, (2 sc in each st), repeat around for R14 and R15
          - R16:  switch to teal yarn (dress color), (2sctog in each st around).  You should have 8 sc when your are done with R16
          - R17 through R19:  finish pattern as written

Belt:  Ch 55, turn, sl st in each st, tie off ends
          -  Weave in and out every 4 stitches on dress in R4.

Hair:  (this is a JOB!)  Make Wig Cap as written in red/orange yarn
          - cut hair pieces 16 inches long (you need a WHOLE BUNCH of pieces)
          - attach as shown in pattern pictures around the entire edge of the cap
          - to fill in main part of wig cap, use the cut pieces and attach in every row, in every 3 sc spaces
          - separate each yarn strand into 2ply (each yarn strand should be made up of 4 thinner strands, which is what makes it 4ply worsted weight.  Pull these apart into 2 pieces, making it 2ply.)  Fluff into big puffy-ness.

Tiana - Disney's Princess & the Frog
Use Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Latte for skin color

Gloves:  Make as written in pattern in skin color and the same green color as dress

Dress:  Use skin color for R1 & R2 of bodice pattern, switch to green for R3 through R10
          - switch to yellow for R11- R13
          - switch to white for R14

Hair:  Make Wig Cap as written in black
          - for Bun:  repeat HEAD pattern R1 through R5

Stuff with fiber fill and sew onto wig cap
          - make Princess Tiara pattern as written

Snow White - Disney's Snow White
Dress:  Make Bodice pattern as written in blue
          - R4-R14 - use yellow

Puffy Sleeves:   Make Arm Pattern as written for Short Sleeves until R13 (in skin color)
         - R14 - in blue, (2 sc in each st) around
         - R15 - 1 sc in each st around
         - R16 - 1 sc in each st around, adding in red in alternating sc's (carry red behind your work so you can bring it up every other stitch)
         - R17-R19 - in blue only, 1 sc in each st around

Hair:  Make Wig Cap in black
         - for edging, work (puff st in nect st, ch 1, sl st in next st), repeat around edge of wig cap
  {Puff Stitch -- (YO, insert hook in next st, YO, draw up loop, YO and pull through 2 loops on hook), repeat 2 more times then YO and pull through all remaining loops on hook}

Headband:  With red, sew back and forth across the crown of the wig cap, fasten off underneath to hide the strings inside

Belle - Updated with new notes and more detail!  See blog post on Mar 16, 2017

Cinderella - Disney's Cinderella
Gloves:  Make Glove Pattern as written in white

Dress:  Make Bodice Pattern as written in light blue
          - R4-R12 - switch to a darker blue
          - R13-R14 - switch back to the light blue

Hair: Make Wig Cap as written in yellow
         - For BUN - Repeat HEAD R1-R5

Cupcake Beanie pattern

Here it is, friends!  I was asked to write up my version of a Cupcake Beanie.  A few years ago I came across a bootleg internet copy of a similar hat made by Twinkie Chan.  I worked her pattern up and liked it ok, but it didn't work once my daughter wore the hat...it barely sat straight on her head and the cake part kept getting bigger and bigger the more she wore it.  No bueno.  So, like any crafty/crocheting, frustrated mom, I decided to make up my own version and out came this little number.  It's a little slouchier so the frosting looks super-swirly and the cake part fits around the head a little tighter to help keep in on.  If you have any questions or need help, feel free to contact me on FB https://www.facebook.com/pages/Spicy-Tuesday-Crafts/167303963320859?ref=hl and I'll see if I can sort it out for you.  Enjoy!
 Cupcake Beanie

Materials:  I hook (5.5mm)
WW yarn in your choice of frosting color
WW yarn in your choice of Cake color
Pony beads, sequins, pom poms...whatever type of decoration you'd like

 Frosting:  Ch 28, turn

R1:  1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each st across, ch 2, turn.

(work in BLO from here on)

R2:  1 hdc in each st across, 2 hdc in last st, ch2, turn.
R3:  2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each st across, 2hdctog in last 2 sts, ch 2, turn.
R4:  2hdctog in first 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st across, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2 turn.
            R5 through R50:  Repeat, alternating between R3 and R4

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew R1 to R50 to make a tube.  FO, but do NOT cut the string.  Set frosting aside.

Cake:  Ch 14

(work in BLO for the whole cake section)

R1:  1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each st across, ch 2 turn.
R2:  1 sc in each st across, ch 2, turn.
R3 through R90:  I sc in each st across, ch 2, turn.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew R1 to R90 to make a short tube.  Carefully and evenly, sew cake piece to bottom edge of frosting piece.  (You'll be sewing 90 sc rows to 50 hdc rows so try to keep the sewing stitches as even as possible around the cake.)  FO and weave in ends.

Using the left-over sewing tail on the frosting, weave it in and out along the top edge of the frosting, around the tube. Pull gently to cinch the top edge closed.

            FO and weave in ends.

Add "sprinkles" - pompoms, sequins, etc. - or whatever embellishment you'd like.  For my sprinkles, I used Pony beads, sewing them on and tying the knots on the inside of the hat to hide them.
